Joe Emerson, Methodist minister and longtime FUMC Bloomington staff member attended Boston University with Martin Luther King, Jr. Joe was one of the clergy who answered the call to march in Selma. The H-T captured his recollections in an interview.

Another Bloomington Connection
-MARCH, Graphic Art, and John Lewis-
As a young civil rights organizer, Senator John Lewis marched in Selma. Lewis' memoirs are detailed in three books illustrated by well-known graphic artist Nate Powell who happens to live in Bloomington. John Lewis was in Bloomington September 2015 as the featured speaker for Power of Words sponsored by the Friends of the Monroe County Public Library.
